After a medical crisis leaves single mom Beck (Dakota Ray Hebert) in a sedentary state, it takes the impossible appearance of a legendary Mohawk long-distance runner from a century ago to challenge the acerbic, back-talking single mom into turning her life around.

film synopsis

It’s hard not to fall in love with Beck (Dakota Ray Hebert) even though she’s a real mess. Psychologically stuck after the loss of her mother, Beck is a smoking, drinking, sugar-binging Mohawk woman who lives with her young son in her father’s house. After enduring a medical crisis with an uncertain welcome, Beck actively alienates her family and friends and their constant health advice. One day, the ghost of Tom Longboat (Asivak Koostachin), a legendary Mohawk long-distance runner from a century ago, appears, challenging Beck to better her health and embrace her culture. Predictably, she doesn’t immediately fall in line. Filled with gentle observational humor and a delightful romantic subplot that tempers Beck’s acerbic worldview, Run Woman Run is perfect viewing for anyone who has faced emotional inertia – and isn’t that most of us?
